(Rarely Given) Answers

  1. How do I become an BRIA member? [top]

If you are a Systems Manager at a General Clinical Research Center, then you already are an inactive member. If you complete the application form and pay dues, then you are an active member. There are also affiliate memberships, but you can read the Constitution to get more details on that.

  2. How do I subscribe to the listserver so I get the BRIA email? [top]

The best way to get on the correct list is to send email to the BRIA secretary at gcrc-agsm-secy@med.unc.edu. He will put you on the BRIA list.

The address of the list for the BRIA is
gcrc-agsm@listserv.med.unc.edu. Please post any news, information, or questions regarding system management or GCRCs in general to the list. We're a very friendly group and we're here to help each other.

  3. I pay dues? What do I get for paying dues? [top]

Yes, you pay dues of $45 a year. By paying dues you move from being an inactive member to an active member. This means that you get to vote and if you choose run for office. Of course you also then get some say on how the money is spent.

  4. Why would I want to be a member? [top]

If you are a GCRC Systems Manager, then you are a member. Maybe the the question is "why would I want to be a member of any Association?" Well, that depends on how you view your job, yourself, and how you want others to view you. The GCRC Systems Managers generally see themselves as professionals and want to be treated that way. The intention of the Association is to promote its members as professionals, to provide an avenue of communication to the GCRC Program, and provide a means for us to meet and grow as professionals and thus increase our value to ourselves, our Centers, and the GCRC Program.

So, you ask, "if I'm already a member (although inactive), why would I want to be a 'dues paying' member?" If you are truly serious about wanting to be a professional, then you should want to get involved at least at a voting level and you should probably expect to pay dues. There simply aren't many professional organizations that don't collect dues.

  5. There is an annual meeting. Where/when is the next one? [top]

You can find this answer on our Annual Meetings page.

  6. Who is in charge of this group? [top]
